BACKGROUND

This popular fire prevention course offers a cost effective way of providing staff with a basic level of knowledge and training in fire safety as required by Health, Welfare & Safety at Work Act 2005 and the Fire Services Act 1981 & 2003. Certificates will be issued on completion of course as proof of attendance.

COURSE CONTENTS

This course comprises a series of training modules presented on a progressive basis. Sessions includes:

  • Fire and the law
  • Fire facts and figures
  • Principals of combustion
  • Fire & smoke spread
  • First steps on suspicion of fire
  • Evacuation principals
  • Calling the emergency services
  • Fire extinguishment theory
  • The selection, operation and actuation of first aid portable fire extinguishers
  • Fire extinguishment – practical demonstration in the use of fire extinguishers
  • Questions & Answers Session

OBJECTIVES

  • Be aware of their personal responsibilities in preventing an outbreak of fire
  • Have developed a greater awareness of the hazards of fire
  • Have a greater understanding of the nature of fire and how it spreads
  • Recognise the threat fire poses to people and property
  • Understand why fire emergency procedures are implemented and the correct action to be taken should a fire occur
  • Distinguish between the different types of extinguishers and the fires for which they are suited
  • Tackle small fires with confidence
