BACKGROUND
This fire prevention course offers a cost effective way of meeting the requirements to have a number of trained fire wardens. It provides both basic knowledge and training in fire safety as required by The health, Welfare & Safety Act 2005 and the Fire Services Act 1981 & 2003, incorporating the duties and responsibilities of a fire warden. It will provide participants with the necessary information to undertake these duties in the workplace. Certificates will be issued on completion of course as proof of attendance.
COURSE CONTENTS
This course comprises a series of training modules presented on a progressive basis. Sessions includes:
- Fire and the law
- Fire facts and figures
- Principals of combustion
- Fire & smoke spread
- First steps on suspicion of fire
- Evacuation principals
- Calling the emergency services
- The fire warden responsibilities and duties
- Fire extinguishment theory
- The selection, operation and actuation of first aid portable fire extinguishers
- Fire extinguishment – practical demonstration in the use of fire extinguishers
- Questions & Answers Session
OBJECTIVES
- Understanding their responsibilities and duties as fire wardens in the workplace
- Have developed a greater awareness of the hazards of fire
- Have a greater understanding of the nature of fire and how it spreads
- Recognise the threat fire poses to people and property
- Understand why fire emergency procedures are implemented and the correct action to be taken should a fire occur
- Distinguish between the different types of extinguishers and the fires for which they are suited
- Tackle small fires with confidence
