BACKGROUND

This four day course is designed for beginners. Operating a forklift truck is a specialised skill. A lot of accidents happen when drivers operating truck are untrained in the conditions that apply to forklifts. Providing they achieve the required standard in the theoretical and practical test, candidates will receive a certificate of qualification at the end of the course.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Drivers with little experience and no certificate and new drivers.

COURSE PROGRAMME:

Practical training:

• Introduction to the fork lift truck
• Maintenance, take-over and daily inspection
• Starting, Stopping and steering
• Controls and instruments
• Handling the forklift i.e. manoeuvring
• Manoeuvring in confined spaces
• Operating hydraulic controls
• Handling difficult loads
• Weight assessment

Practical training:

• Daily inspection
• Operating practices
• Hydraulics system
• Operator’s safety code

ON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

• Operate a fork lift truck safely
• Reduce the risk to pedestrians and reduce risk of injury to operators.
• Load and unload safely
• Handle difficult loads
• Understand the consequences of taking certain chances

Certificates and hand-outs will be issued on completion.
